Houston, TX – August 4, 2025 – CoreSpec is pleased to announce that Dr. Christopher R. Clarkson, a renowned expert in unconventional reservoir engineering, through his company TecTOC Energy Ltd., has agreed to serve as a consulting advisor to support the strategic development and rollout of RTAPK (Rate- Transient Analysis, Porosity, and Permeability) as a new service offering.
Dr. Clarkson brings over 25 years of experience in reservoir engineering and applied research, with an extensive track record in rate- and pressure-transient analysis and advanced core evaluation techniques. He currently serves as a professor at the University of Calgary and is the ARC/Ovintiv Chair in Subsurface Transitional Energy Pathways and Tamaratt Research Professor in Transitional Energy. Prior to coming to academia, he was a reservoir engineer in industry for 11 years. His collaboration with CoreSpec marks a significant step in bringing the RTAPK method from academic research to commercial application.
“RTAPK allows us to simulate real-world production conditions in the lab and analyze the data the same way as field data,” said Dr. Clarkson. “It closes the gap between what happens in the core lab and what operators see in the field.”
What is RTAPK?
RTAPK is a core analysis method that replicates field-like flow conditions in a lab setting and applies rate- transient analysis (RTA)—commonly used for interpreting production data—to small-scale core samples. This unique approach allows for the measurement of porosity and permeability under stress, enables flow- regime identification, and provides insight into complex behaviors like well interference and heterogeneity—critical to optimizing unconventional reservoir development.

By launching RTAPK as a new offering under Dr. Clarkson’s guidance, CoreSpec will be able to:
